No garbage hotel in Hoi An - Saigon Tiep Thi Newspaper
Ensuring that waste is carefully sorted and handled, turning waste from something discarded into a chain of value creation is the model that Hoi An Chic Hotel (Nguyen Trai Street, Hoi An, Quang Nam) is working to realize the green destination.
From the end of 2019 until now, Hoi An Chic hotel has operated a waste treatment model where waste, especially organic waste, becomes an important part in raising earthworms as fertilizer for vegetables.
The above idea comes from a visit to learn a model from Japan by the owner of the hotel chain Hoi An Chic. Returning to Vietnam, he deployed in his hotels and persuaded a number of units in Hoi An to accompany.
With the consensus and determination of Hoi An Chic staff, every day, the waste at the restaurant and kitchen area is classified: organic waste for worms, organic waste for livestock. Particularly hard-to-decompose waste to separate.
After sorting, the organic waste for worms is brought to KyBiMo garden - located in Hoi An Chic system - to compost as food for earthworms. This process creates vermi-compost which is used to re-fertilize the vegetable garden and fruit trees. It is the vegetables and fruits from this garden that will be raw materials for processing dishes serving customers of Hoi An Chic.
Coming to Hoi An Chic, customers not only join hands to sort waste but also experience farming and traditional jobs of Vietnam. The model that Hoi An Chic is implementing is a suggestion for other accommodation businesses to effectively handle waste, contributing to the protection of the green environment.
